Today’s teens face more pressures in their daily lives than ever before in our history. They need to excel in school, make plenty of diverse friends, hold an after school job and make sure their resume is full of interesting extracurricular activities in order to ensure they get into the best colleges. It’s hard for a teen to accomplish this if they do not feel confident in themselves. In order to improve their appearance as well as boost their self esteem, today’s teens are looking to the teenage rhinoplasty procedure for an answer. Dr. Kevin Sadati has worked with this age group for the past decade at his Newport Beach practice.
All young people who are looking into cosmetic surgery should make an extra effort to locate an expert in the field — one that has experience working with teenagers in Orange County. The teenage years are hard enough, and a young adult does not want to find themselves in need of a revision procedure simply because they want with the surgeon who could get them quick results for a low price.
Dr. Sadati encourages teenagers and their parents to set up a consultation appointment to discuss how a nose job works. It is important that both the teen and any parents or guardians attend this meeting as it helps to keep the communication lines open. Minor patients must have written parental or guardian consent before having this particular plastic surgery. In addition to the legal age restrictions, Dr. Sadati has several other age restrictions in place for his teenage patients who want a nose job. Female patients cannot have a rhinoplasty performed until they are between the ages of 15 and 16 years old. Male patients cannot have this procedure completed until they are between the ages of 17 and 18 years old. These restrictions are put in place because the nose is not fully developed until this point. Most surgeries performed before this age range end up having to be redone in a revision procedure.
In addition to the positive social impacts that can come of improving a teen’s image, there also are many medical benefits to having this surgery during this time. First and foremost, their skin has not lost its elasticity yet. This makes it easy for the surgeon to reshape and remold the nose into something beautiful. Young adult patients respond better to surgery in general and will often have quicker, easier recovery times than older adult patients.
